About me

Award Nominated Filmmaker

Bukky Wonda is a prolific filmmaker whose film projects have been nominated for prestigious Film Festivals across North America and Africa including the Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF), in the United States of America.

In September 2020, Bukky made her directorial debut with the first ever African Canadian Drama Series, The African Family. The series has generated a lot of interests among Calgarians, filmmakers and talents alike who see this as a much needed project. Media companies such as CBC, Global News, CTV, Yahoo and MSN have featured the series on TV and their website.

and Filmmaker

Over the last five years, I have had the pleasure to work on several film projects as a producer, director and Executive Producer. I love film so much that I have gone as far as investing in several local film projects here in Canada and beyond just because I wanted to be involved in the industry. I love to see stories told, talents discovered and filmmakers succeed. In 2020, I directed the African Family series, the first of its kind drama series that explores the story of a young diaspora African woman who in search of her own identity, is forced to choose between her family and her happiness. Talented, Professional Actress

For me, acting is an escape that allows me to live so many different lives. It allows me to connect to this world in a way that nothing else does. I love telling stories and connecting deeply to other human beings. I have had the blessing to act in so many movies and TV drama including “The African Family”, “Awkward Things about Losing Weight” “Bridges” and more. When I am not in front of the camera, I am behind it helping bring stories to life.

As a professional filmmaker and actress, I constantly receive emails from people all over the world asking me about the ins and outs of the film industry. I believe in the power of sharing information that empowers us to move forward as a community. This is why I launched The Bukky Wonda Podcast, where I bring you stories from the filmmaking community here in Calgary and beyond. Some of the topics that I cover includes, How to get started in the film industry, how to raise money for your film and more. Click the button below to listen now.
